Sandhill Cranes are a common sight around the area I live in (Florida); they are a protected bird, and they seem to know it as the very slowly walk across the street stopping traffic as they go (why fly when you can cause a traffic jam). They usually travel in pairs. This one (one of two) was moonlighting as a tire and brake mechanic/inspector, checking out my car's tire/brakes. When I questioned its tire/brake certification/credentials, it walked off the job.
They were just walking through the neighborhood. later, they were in the yard, looking for insects, frogs, lizards, etc to dine on.
