Here's my take on dof, something experiment with a lot for my flower shots. I have a spray of orchids & wanted all the flowers in focus. At F16 the wall behind was also in focus, lack of space meant I could not move the flowers further from the bg. orchid_0666 , on Flickr At F2.8 the wall was smooth but the back flowers were out of focus. orchid_0667 , on Flickr I took 3 shots focusing on different parts of the spray, one on the front most flower, one on the bud, and 1 on the back flower. I used focus stacking in CS6 and combined these 3 shots to get sharp focus on the flowers but keeping a smooth bg. orchid_0667-9 , on Flickr
Excellent - both the photography and the info This is the sort of thing I had in mind for these new themes
1st class. I never have much luck with focus stacking but your info has given me the incentive to have another go at this. I agree with what has already been said excellent shots with good info
Thanks all, pleased you found it interesting. I have found that 2 or 3 images at most work the best. For those who really want to get involved in stacking I've seen excellent results from Zerene software.
